Greenpoint Library: Community Hub for Environmental Awareness

Greenpoint Public Library

Free

The newly opened Greenpoint Library and Environmental Education Center will serve as both a full-service library and a community hub for environmental awareness, activism, and education. There are exciting features that interact with the natural world. These include a gardened reading deck, windows that act as sundials, and a cistern to collect rainwater for the rooftop demonstration garden.

At 15,000 square feet, the new library doubles the size of the previous building. This provides significantly enlarged indoor and outdoor spaces to house expanded activities related to the exploration of the environment, as well as everyday library use.  Inside, the library has distinct adult, young adult, and children’s reading rooms. It also has collection and community spaces for regular library programming as well as those supporting environmental education. On the two main floors, there are lab spaces for interactive projects, a large community event space, lounge seating, small meeting rooms, and staff spaces.

Open Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Sunday 10am – 4pm
Open Tuesday & Thursday 10am – 7pm
Closed on Sunday
